Tutorials
From the tutorials I learnt how to airbrush images make them the similar colours to the actual colour you want it for example, spots and dis colouration on peoples body or face you can make them the same colour as the face. I also learnt how to add text and move it around on top of the image, this taught me how to make different layers and how to add/remove them. For example, if I want one layer to overlap another I need to drag one layer on top of the other. In addition, the video shows how to remove the background without affecting the image or deleting the central image this is done by clicking the quick mask mode and painting it black.

1) What does this tell us about Plan B's intentions in making the film?
This video explains to us why Plan B made Ill Manors, he expresses his thoughts when he was thinking about the making of the film. Moreover, he wanted to show people where he grew up an help them to understand why he wants to help youths who grow up in this area. He explains why youths who grow up in these areas do the things they do. For example, the riots, he talks about youths feel they do not belong in this society which is why they do these things such as rioting. Its there way of seeking attention because they never had love growing up. Ill Manors shows the reasons why youths in council estates do things such as drug dealing, violence, prostitution etc. Plan B's intentions were to show the people who judge these youths too quickly the other side to them such as Aaron the protagonist in Ill Manors. Even though his character is involved with drugs and guns we see he has a moral side to him and see the environment he's in he wants to do the right things but cant because of who his friends and where he lives.
2) What do we learn about the production process for Ill Manors?
We learn that during the making of Ill Manors Plan B ran into some youths when he was filming in East London who said its 'their street' and he needs to leave. However, Plan B expressed he's from this area so he stood his ground even though the camera crew weren't and they were ready to leave yet he didn't back down. This shows us Plan B's bravery and passion for his production. We learnt that some of the cast he put in his film were those who stopped those youths from Plan B getting his head kicked in. He wanted to give the an opportunity to do something productive with their time.
3) What can you tell about the possible target audience from this short documentary?
Personally I think from watching this documentary the possible target audience isn't those young kids who can relate to this because their already going to watch films of this genre. But it is those who are the opposite, those who have a dominant ideology of youths who are like this in reality. Plan B wants people to watch the movie and after reflect on why these youths behave in the way, and realise their are reasons for everything even though drugs and violence is wrong they didn't choose to be born into a broken family and people who judge should be more willing to help them rather than stereotype them.
4) Does the film successfully do what director Ben Drew (Plan B) set out to achieve? Explain your answer with reference to both the film and the making of documentary.
In my judgement I think Ill Manors was a successful production and Plan B did achieve everything he wanted to. I think this because, Plan B had a vision for his movie to a big success and get through to people who have a different perception of youths which he achieved asthe movie was a big hit even though he only had a budget of £100,000.

This week we
complete the title sequence along with a story board which also matches are
title sequence. And we made small little changes to the shot list and we
re-evaluated it and decided we needed to make some changed as a group.

been analysing a magazine cover this week which has helped me develop my
analysis skills

to carry on developing them so my analysis skills become more thorough
Ill Manors
Review
Ill Manors genre is a crime thriller which is set in
East London. It has been set in real ‘crack den’ which was stated by Riz Ahmed
in an interview for Ill manors. He emphasised that this was Plan B’s way of
showing those who don’t understand what its like to grow up in situations where
you have been bought up with no love. Plan B wanted to target those who didn’t understand
why youths grow up to behave in such a poor manor hence the title of the film
‘Ill Manors.’
It is based on six separate lives, which each one of
them feels as if they are all alone and try to find a way to survive in the
streets of London. The six main characters are; Ed the thug, he will stop at
nothing until he gets what he wants which is his phone which connects all the
drugs. There is the ex-dealer Kirby who has just recently been released from
prison. Then a female whose name is Michelle who is just looking for her next
way to feed her drug addiction she has lost her way due to being bought up in a poor environment. There
is a young black boy named Jake who gets caught up in a local gang. There is
Chris who is out to seek revenge on another one of the characters. Katya who
tries to escape this foreign land because she wants something else other than
to be trapped in life. Then lastly, our main protagonist Aaron who is just
trying to fit in but at the same time trying to do the moral thing.
Plan B’s novelty is to use his own rap music
parallel to the movie and to rap about the areas of Britain, showing how
troubled young teenagers can be because of where they grow up. He wanted to
show how youth’s can easily be led and get stuck in a viscous circle of life
hence the reason he filmed it where he did (Circle Estate). Plan B gave real
young teenagers who were unknown, yet from this area East London a chance to
act in this movie as he only had a budget of £100,000 to make this movie. But,
also he explained how it made more sense to people who can relate to this in
real life, instead of those who just starring it in because there well known. Moreover,
the audience can almost sense the frenzy of ideas in Plan B’s mind through his
script as everything that happens, also everything that is said it has some
sort of truth to it. The first hour of the movie starts off very chaotic and
energetic as there are different stories going on at once.
Some people may watch Ill Manors and think Plan B
has portrayed perfect stereotypes of youths who are raised in these areas.
However, Plan B is trying to point out there is more to it than that and wants
to show people who are so quick to judge kids like this that things aren’t as
simple. People who judge as say things such as ‘I don’t want my child hanging
around with someone like that’ instead of helping them they stereotype them.
Plan B wants to point out that if you look at the bigger picture you will see
these youths haven’t been raised with love and they feel they have no choice
but to get by all alone.

1. Title of publication- The masthead is partially blocked by by the main characters head which means that the title on the magazine is well known. Also, the font of the title blends in well as doctors who's genre is sci-fi which goes well with the font as the bold grey colour can suggest adventure which is what this programme is about. The title is easily visible because if it is stacked at the bottom and other magazines are on top in the shop the title will still stand out an attract people.
2. Slogan- The slogan is above the title which catches the audiences eye, it also has a different font for the 50 years as they want to emphasise this. The slogan is based in the centre page, its a short catchy phrase, intended to sum up the magazines image. Its a link to the magazine as people will see the reference between the slogan an the magazine as a whole.
3.Central Image- The central image has one main character at the front which is the main character in the programme this is to anchor the cover, what I mean by this is the audiences focus will mainly be on the central image which in the case is the main character. The main reason they don't this is because when fans of Doctor who see this then they will recognise him straight away which may then attract them towards the magazine. This could be used as a unique selling point.
4.Flash/Cover lines- As the magazine cover has been anchored by the central image and the masthead, the cover line is placed just below the central image where it isn't cover his face . The cover lines is in a white bold writing which stands out against the background of the centre image. It is there to also grab the audiences attention and reassure the audience that this magazine is all based on Doctor who.
5.Free offer-This magazine promotes other additional items within the magazine. This offer has been focused on on the right hand side of the magazine with a whole column from top to bottom. This is used to help persuade the target market buy the magazine, it also is used to make them think they are getting value for money as there getting additional 'Doctor Who' souvenirs to go with it.
6.Colour scheme- In order to avoid a magazine cover becoming to 'busy' it is better to use a certain amount of colour and make sure they blend well together which has been done with the cover. As you can see the colour mainly used on this front cover is shades of grey, white and red to make the writing stand out. This looks more professional for this kind of magazine as if it looked to busy it wouldn't suit the genre especially with a sci-fi magazine the colour scheme goes well. The colour grey which is used with different shades connotes security, sophisticated and formal. Which contracts with the colour red as this can connote love, passion, lust, death, or blood.
7.Name/Game Checks- On this magazine there are name checks this is because the magazine attempts to engage with the audience to make them feel like they are a part of the ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Adventures in Space and Time
Language- The language on the
front page is all used to entice the target market to buy the magazine and
attract them and make them think they
are getting their money’s worth. As the magazine cover is an A4 page all their
wording is precise and gets straight to the point. The cover line uses an
alliteration which allows the audience to remember it because it is short an
catchy. They may even use this as a unique selling point. They have put the
font in bold an capital letters so
it attracts the audiences eye.
Competition- The blue ray DVDs,
Books and CD’s offers the audience a chance to win, this is done by an eye
catching word ‘WIN’ which is in capitals in a red box. This is eye catching for
the audience and draws attention to them. It also offers the chance to collect
anniversary art cards, which could have significant value to fanatics and
therefore publicises the magazine further.
Bar Code- The barcode is in a
small print on the bottom right hand of the page, this is so it doesn’t affect
the look of the front cover too much. The price is also printed in a small
white font next to the barcode it is priced at £7.99 which is expensive for a
magazine so they want to entice the audience first and attract them to wanting
it before they see the price which could be an off put.
Real Target Audience-
The real target market is those who love Doctor who and are pure fans
who watch it on a weekly basis. It is aimed at wide age group as it varies young
boys may like this magazine but also men as they might be into sci-fi
programmes. . Also, males are more likely to purchase the magazine due to the
more manly approach of the characters in the images and the colour scheme being
dark and mysterious which females aren’t accustomed to.

The making of Ill
Manors
11. What
does this tell us about Plan B's intentions in making the film?
The making of Ill Manors/behind the scenes
tells us that Plan B’s intentions of making the film was to open people’s eyes
up of what does happen in everyday life in council area’s and places such as
East London where the film in set in. In addition, he wants his target market
to see what happens to youth when they grow up without families, this is to
show people why young youths behave this way because they feel like they’re all
alone.
2. What do we learn about the production process
for Ill Manors?
We
learn that the production process of Ill Manors is based in East London in
areas where these sorts of things happen such as selling drugs, prostitution
etc. Also, Plan B emphasised on the fact that the characters in the film are
also bought up in these areas as thought it would be more realistic as he said
youths talk the same whereas if he used other youths for the production they
may not use the same language as young teenagers these days. It shows that
there is a lot of reality based in the production which is what Plan B wanted
to get across to people.
33. What
can you tell about the possible target audience from this short documentary?

Classwork
What are the typical codes and convention of
film trailers – what information is usually provided?
1. The typical codes and conventions of film trailers usually tell the story of
what the film is about in a speedy condensed fashion. The trailers are usually edited to make the audience feel engaged and excited about the
coming film, to do this they use fast
cuts and texts to make the audience aware of what is going on,
also they use this to create an enigma
code so it leave the target market
wondering what is happening or what is going to happen which makes them more
anxious to go see the film. Trailers are usually a three part structure the beginning which lays out the key element of the story, the
middle part of the trailer which tells us a bit more about the narrative, then towards the end of the trailer it reaches a climax which is a visual montage of edits which is usually followed by a piece of music and text.
How are trailers distributed?
2. The trailers are known to be generally distributed
by the same studios that produced
them. I.e. Revolver Entertainment distributed
the trailers. Whereas a big budget
Hollywood film would have someone who is more known for example Harry Potter
the film and trailers are distributed by Warner Bros.
How does ILL Manors use trailer conventions?
3. ILL Manors uses trailer conventions through
the voice over in the trailer which is Plan B as it creates a story line of what
is happening in connection with the images that are shown along with the
dialogue in the trailer.
Who is the target audience? Does it have a
unique selling point or use of particular techniques to appeal to the audience?
Consider the way the scenes are edited together – does the trailer give away
any clues about the narrative? Are the main stars visual in the trailer? Is
their information about the director of the film? Is there information about
the release date? Is a narratives voice-over used?
4. I think the target audience for ILL Manors is
aimed at young adults/ teenagers from the ages between 18-30 year olds as the film
contains violence, drugs use and sexual contents which is appropriate for those
over 18. However, I do believe that 15+ would also watch such as 16-17 year
olds as they may be able to relate to certain parts of the narrative in the
film especially those who come from a lone parent family or those who lived in
estates growing up. I think this film is aimed more at men but also an girls as
in the film it shows all men who are the drug dealers as it is a dangerous
thing to get caught up in. But it also appeals to young women as they may be
fans of Plan B which may determine them to watch the movie. Plan B the director
of the film wants to show people the typical stereotypes of young males/females.
However, he wants to get across to people why they can be stuck in that life
and how they get caught up in it from a young age, showing how hard it is for
them to escape that life once their caught up in it. The title ILL Manors and
release date is shown towards the end of the trailer as it is a vital piece of
the trailer in order for the audience to remember when its out which promotes the
film but also the name of the film.

Progress Report
What I contributed to my group: I was in charge of doing the mise en scene which meant taking pictures of the location we plan to film at. In addition, I tried to get different angles of the same locations to help me and my group decide how we can shoot in a particular place.
WWW: I gathered information/ pictures of where we will be shooting, also I looked at the props/costumes we will need when filming.
EBI: I had to take more pictures as I didn't have different angles of the location which it would of been better if I'd done this before hand as it would of been more prepared.
We as a group have all contributed and have all taken responsibility for something with the pre-planning before we actually shoot our production which is vital as it wouldn't be fair if one person done all the work.
