Extract from Citizen Khan...
This scene starts off in black and white, with a medium long shot of a character which
shows his facial expressions and some of his body language. The shot shows from
his hips upwards, the scene starts off with no sound which creates an enigma
code within the audience as they are left wondering what is going on or what
the character is looking at? As he is not making direct eye contact with the
camera but it looks like his focus is on something that we as an audience
cannot identify. Going into the scene
the camera starts to tilt upwards giving us a low angle shot of the character
which shows the audience the character as if we are looking up at him. This
could suggest that the character is in a vulnerable state and he doesn’t have
any power as the camera is looking up at him from a low angle. The character is
wearing a suit, plus the setting around him suggests he is a wealthy man,
taking into consideration this is a film made a long time ago as it is in black
and white. The male in the scene starts throwing his suit case which makes a
loud sound, he then starts smashing up the room which creates loud noises in
the scene which creates confusion in the audience as they don’t know what he’s
angry about or why this is happening, it creates a mystery mood. The are also panning shots being used in the scene,
which is when the camera follows the main character to show his fast movement
around the room to emphasise his anger whilst he’s throwing things around the
room.
